Oh Japan how you never stop amazing me with your sweet treats ♥
Atheist Peace (Cover)
Here’s a cover of one of my favorite songs. It’s originally performed by Bad Religion. Goes to show that when I call myself folk punk it’s not that far off. I often try to cover punk songs and refit them to my style, and I love the way this one turned out (P.S. Dear Bad Religion, I love you, please don’t sue me).
Obar Al Jamar's Online Store-A-Majig
Hey check it, it only took 4 years, but I finally found a decent place to host my music for your streaming and/or buying needs. I tried this one place (which will remain nameless) that wasn’t even in a format that ipods could play. Right? What the hell? Well this here is called Bandcamp, and it’s free (for me), and streams everything if you want to listen first, and you can even choose whatever format you want it in when you download it. That’s right my little open source friends, that means Ogg Vorbis, that also means wav for you audiofreaks … which seriously, all I have recorded is demos, which will make an audiophile’s ears bleed, but hey it’s good to have options. Oh it’s also used by cool people like Sufjan Stevens, which equals win in my book. Anywho, DmoIII is finally available to the freakin public. Maybe now I can work on DmoIV and it wont take a million years to release it.
3rd Planet (Cover)
This is a cover of a song I added to my repertoire a few years ago and it fit like a glove. The song is by Modest Mouse, and is their best song in my opinion. Check how I take their song and Obar-ify it: Demo recording? Check. Acoustic folk strum style? Check. High voice? Check. Super simple lead guitar ‘cause I don’t know how to solo? Check. Yep, it’s all there (Legal note: please don’t sue me, I’m not making any money on this, just did it for fun).
Bottom of the Earth
Hey, long time no see, you can think my friend Lydia (who I once knew as Mike) for my return. Here’s one from all the way back in 2002, the recording is from sometime after 2006 though, when I thought I’d rerecord all of DmoOne in graduate school, yeah that worked out great … three songs in four years isn’t half bad though now that I think about it. Enjoy
“tastes like the ground” for the credits. it’s like if I was in a band w/@obaraljamar.
Here’s a badass remix of “Tastes Like the Ground” done by Roberto for the ending credits for the indie film he’s scoring. Methinks Roberto and I were meant to work together, what do you think?
Sara The Troll (You Gave Me A Rock)
Here’s a fun one, while cleaning up my room before moving down south for grad school I found a rock with a phone number on it and the name “Sara” and I could not for the life of me remember where I got it from. Did I ask a girl out in a quarry? On a riverbank perhaps? And why didn’t I call her? Well this leads to the “troll” part of the song, and we can thank my good friend Adam for the discussion that inspired:
“Well maybe she was a troll.”
“Trolls need love too you know.”
“Heh, Sara the troll.”
Hazaa, and the kids love it too, my favorite line: “You wear a chastity belt with a booby trapped lock / Sara the troll, your name’s on a rock.” Priceless.
Also, props to Roberto for his mad kazoo skills.
Christine Daaé
Some masterful work by Roberto here, did I mention that he recorded and mixed and added his awesome sauce to everything on DmoIII? Well he did, check him out here.
With A Headache
This is a song about love, not random drunken meaningless hookups, just thought I’d clear that up.
Tastes Like The Ground
The best song I’ve ever written imo, I could write a book analyzing this one, particularly how the meaning has changed throughout the years. This is basically a song exemplifying my world view, a late night discussion between an optimist and a pessimist, the optimist gets the last word of course, but with a tinge of sadness after the experience: “We should be happy despite burdens that we shoulder, but we’re not.”
Enjoy
